About eating disorder treatment in Nevada
Specialty care is in the two metro areas, Reno in northern Nevada and Las Vegas in southern Nevada. Thrive Wellness Reno's Roy House provides partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient, and outpatient care for ages 13 and up, and is the only specialty higher-level eating disorder program in northern Nevada. The Eating Disorder Institute of Las Vegas offers outpatient care. Outside Reno and Las Vegas, including rural northern, central, and eastern Nevada, there is no in-person specialty eating disorder program, and reaching residential or inpatient care means an out-of-state placement.
Paying for treatment in Nevada
Most commercial health plans in Nevada cover eating disorder treatment as a mental health benefit, subject to your plan's usual deductibles, copays, and prior-authorization rules for higher levels of care. In-network coverage depends on whether your specific plan contracts with the program you are considering.(source)
Nevada Medicaid (administered by the Division of Health Care Financing and Policy, DHCFP) covers eating disorder treatment as a mental health benefit, with prior authorization and medical-necessity review for higher levels of care. Thrive Wellness Reno's Roy House accepts Nevada Medicaid for its outpatient, intensive outpatient, and partial-hospitalization eating disorder care; confirm acceptance at intake. Children may also qualify through Nevada Check Up.(source)

Common questions about eating disorder treatment in Nevada
Where can I get residential eating disorder treatment in Nevada?
Nevada currently has no in-state residential or specialty inpatient eating disorder program. The earlier in-state options closed or lost their licenses. Center for Hope of the Sierras in Reno closed, and the Nevada Health Authority revoked the licenses of Moriah Behavioral Health's adolescent residential facilities. Thrive Wellness in Reno has announced The Greenhouse, an adolescent and emerging-adult residential program. Until it opens, residents needing residential care travel out of state, with placements usually coordinated by their insurance plan.
Does Nevada Medicaid cover eating disorder treatment?
Yes. Nevada Medicaid covers eating disorder treatment as a mental health benefit, with prior authorization for higher levels of care. Thrive Wellness Reno's Roy House accepts it for outpatient, intensive outpatient, and partial hospitalization care, and children may also qualify through Nevada Check Up.
What about eating disorder treatment in Las Vegas, southern Nevada, or rural Nevada?
Nevada's in-person specialty care is limited to a partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient program in Reno (Thrive Wellness Roy House) and an outpatient practice in Las Vegas. After Moriah Behavioral Health's facilities closed, most southern Nevada residents needing higher levels of care travel out of state or use virtual programs. Rural areas (Elko, Carson City, tribal communities) have no in-person specialty program. For these residents, a virtual outpatient or intensive outpatient program licensed for Nevada is often the most realistic choice.
